Philippines
According to the Philippine Coconut Authority, the region is home to about 2.5 million coconut farmers who can face significant challenges, from aging coconut trees that produce fewer coconuts to extreme weather events, like hurricanes and flooding, and limited access to education or community resources in rural areas. These issues can directly affect farmer livelihoods and the long-term sustainability of coconut farming.
We work alongside local partners to help equip farmers with the resources and training they need to thrive. Through programming carefully tailored to meet the needs of each region, our efforts focus on seedling distribution through Vita Coco’s Seedlings for Sustainability initiative which has a goal to help distribute and plant 10 million seedlings and trees by 2030. Seedling distribution is accompanied by farmer training, and the development of community seedling nurseries to expand our collective impact.
To address the challenge of reduced access to community resources in rural areas, we also support the construction of classrooms and schools in rural coconut farming regions. These classrooms not only serve as learning spaces, but can also provide access to clean water, internet activity, and technology that benefit students, teachers, and the entire community.
